Forty-fifth Poem
Mother,
give me a simple heart
so that I may recognize
the immensity of the Love of God.
Mother,
give me a meek heart
so that I may learn to find peace.
Mother,
give me a humble heart
so that I may see Christ
reflected in the face of each brother and sister.
Mother,
give me a strengthened heart
so that, before the temptations and the tests,
I may only think of Christ.
Mother,
give me an empty heart
so that I may be able to divest of myself,
and Christ may have a place wherein to dwell.
Mother,
give me a charitable and serving heart
so that I may realize
the need in each place.
Mother,
give me a grateful heart
so that it may not fall in the tests of criticism or value judgment,
but rather may I always be able to live gratitude,
even in the small details of life.
Mother,
give me a heart of faith
so that I may always trust in that which is unknown,
and peacefully open myself to be redeemed by Your Son.
Mother,
give me a faithful heart
so that You and Christ may trust in my soul,
that will strive to fulfill its mission on Earth.
